What a bloodhound looks like to scent being trailed.

A little about me and my dogs:
My name is Edward Hamm, but PLEASE, everybody calls me "Ted". I have trained and worked bloodhounds since 1988, and the last 6 of those years has been working primarily on major felony investigations. I have been involved with using bloodhounds in over 700 criminal investigations, the majority of these were homicides, followed by rapes, and officer involved shootings. I spent the majority of these last 12 years working the bloodhounds as a "civilian volunteer" for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department...yeah, that's right, no pay. However, when it got to the point I was being called out on a nearly daily basis, I decided, enough is enough. I am now a paid civilian contractor with the Sheriff's Dept, as well as several other agenies. I have testified as an expert witness over 30 times regarding "Scent Evidence" in general, as well as the specific work of my dogs. In the cases I have testified on we have won convictions on all but two cases...one was a hung jury and the case was re-tried and got convictions on two first degree murder charges.
I have had six bloodhounds over these 12 years, the three I have now are 6 year old "Knight", 2 year old "Polly", and 1 year old "Rosie". I'll write more on bloodhounds, and other dogs, on another page.
CASE EXAMPLES:
Rape of a 12 year old girl in her own home. Scent obtained from a ski mask dropped by suspect. Suspect trailed from rear door of victim's apartment to front door of an adjacent apartment. Young male removed from that apartment and agreed to go to police station for questioning. Bloodhound then started at point the subject exited detective's vehicle, and trailed him into police station, up stairs, through detective bureau and into interview room where the bloodhound ID'd subject as being a scent match to ski the mask. DNA match confirmed bloodhound work, suspect pled out, and received minimum 23 years.
Murder of newborn baby about a week before Christmas, body found in a trash bag in a dumpster. Scent obtained from the victim's body. Witnesses stated male subject left area in black foreign sedan. Bloodhound however trailed the scent to a nearby apartment, literally only a few feet away. When detectives knocked on the door, a 20-something female answered. Detectives could see wrapping paper inside apartment that matched scrapes found in trash bag with dead infant. Female confessed to the murder of her own newborn, "because the baby was crying". HINT: as a dog handler, don't listen to witnesses, "TRUST YOUR DOG".
Female basketball star's murdered body found in back seat of her own car. My bloodhound was started at the location of the victim's body, and trailed 3.2 miles to a residence. As we were leaving the residence (the detectives weren't quite sure how they wanted to proceed) the garage door opened and a car pulled into the driveway. A female subject was detained from the vehicle. Inside the now open garage what appeared to be blood drops could be observed. The female subject confessed to shooting the victim during an argument, and has pled guilty to Second Degree Murder.
